About the class

In response to high demand, I’ve expanded this workshop to include mold making alongside our exploration of sculpting lifelike animal heads with clay. We'll dive deep into innovative techniques that expand creative possibilities. Right from the start, we'll jump into using press molds, eliminating the need to begin with shapeless clay. This approach allows for rapid progress, avoiding the daunting task of starting with a blank canvas.

1. Please bring either a premade two-part piece suitable for mold making, or you can create one during the workshop with my assistance. A two-part mold piece is an object that can be divided in half, much like a chocolate bear or your favorite Valentine's treat. These pieces are typically made using molds, and you'll notice a visible seam where the two halves join together. We can have a phone conversation in advance if this helps.

2.  Utilizing Sprigs for Expressive Eyes, you’ll learn how to use sprigs, a versatile technique, to create captivating and expressive eyes for your animal sculptures. This skill allows you to bring out the character and emotions of your subjects quickly and effectively.

3.  Crafting Detailed Mouths, we explore the art of cutting the lower jaw away from the head, enabling you to insert intricate features like tongues and teeth. This technique adds a level of realism and detail to your animal sculptures, making them truly exceptional.

4.   Crafting the Membrane, we'll guide you through the technique of crafting tension between two points, effectively conjuring the illusion of a stretched membrane. This technique is a versatile gem in the artist's toolkit, with countless applications waiting to be explored.

By the end of this workshop, you'll have at least one mold that you can use indefinitely for all your future artistic projects. Additionally, you'll gain a comprehensive understanding of sculpting animal heads and acquire the skills to create intricate, expressive, and lifelike features. This will ensure that your clay creations are not only captivating but also a genuine refection of your personal vision.
