About the class
In a little under 2 hours, you’ll learn the basic pinch technique that is perfect for introduction to ceramics. Using just your hands, you’ll make 3 ceramic planters for your favorite cactus or succulent that you will cherish for a lifetime. No tools necessary. I provide clay, tools, instruction and kiln/glaze firing.
Come have fun with friends or come alone and make new friends. We’re spreading the ceramic love.
The ultimate goal with these backyard classes is to see if our town will support a community studio in downtown Cedar City. If there is interest, we'll move to a larger commercial space where we’ll take a deeper dive into all aspects of ceramics from wheel throwing to sculpture to hand building, as well as memberships that include studio access.
If you've taken a class, you'll be invited to be the first students to take longer term classes in our new space.
Note: The class location will be sent upon enrollment.
About the Studio
About two years ago, I started the online gallery called Shape Theory Collective with a mission to not only bring thoughtful and interesting ceramic art to our community, we also donate 5% of proceeds to the Last Prisoner Project to help them in their mission to free the 40,000 cannabis prisoners in this country.
Once the online gallery was live for a few months, I began to consider opening a “Brick and Mortar” Shape Theory Collective Gallery in Cedar City, which then led to the idea of creating a community ceramics studio as well.
While I was building the online gallery, I was also building a new backyard ceramics studio. When I started to consider opening a community ceramics studio somewhere in town, friends suggested that I start teaching in my backyard studio first to see if there would be interest. Now that I’ve been teaching these classes for the past few months, there seems to be a lot of interest, because each class has been full and there’s a waiting list for future classes.
